By the Numbers: New Research Highlights the Impact of Organizing, Advocacy and Civic Engagement
| Session Organizers: |

Lisa Ranghelli, National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy |
As NFG members gather in Los Angeles to reflect on what it takes to help low- and moderate-income communities achieve the American Dream, this session will provide valuable answers. The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) will be producing a series of reports in locales across the country that document the positive impacts of policy advocacy, community organizing and civic engagement. At this session, NCRP will share findings from its first report, hot off the presses, and engage participants in a lively discussion about how to build more philanthropic support for organizing and advocacy. The methodology for these reports draws on the most recent advances in advocacy evaluation and the latest research on the outcomes of organizing. The reports will provide hard data showing quantitative impact and return on investment, so that funders can see how their collective contributions are helping to solve critical problems in their local communities. These reports will also tell compelling stories about the individuals and families engaging in and benefiting from these advocacy and organizing efforts. Whether your philanthropic institution already funds advocacy and organizing or is contemplating doing so, this session will offer new perspectives on the value of these strategies for carrying out your mission.
