Report to Members
By Mary Jo Mullan and Garland Yates, Co-Chairs
We hope that you had a wonderful summer!
Planning is well underway for next year's NFG annual conference in San
Francisco. Mark your calendars for March 14-16, 2002! Thanks to the many
Bay Area NFG members who are serving on the planning committee - Marsha
Bonner, Karen Byrne, C.J. Callen, Yvonne Carrasco, Diane Feeney, Martha
Jiminez, Colin Lacon, Craig McGarvey, Brad Paul, Mario Salgado, Luz Vega-Marquis,
Judy Patrick, Lucia Corral Pena, Marian Standish, Melinda Tuan, Chantel
Walker, Ellen Widness and Teri Yeager. Conference chair Sara
Gould is joined by Henry Allen, Peter Beard, Bob Jaquay, Antonio
Manning, Benita Melton, Regina McGraw, Sherece West and Terry Weigel
on the national planning committee. All NFG members will receive a Call
for Sessions early this fall and regular updates about the conference
and conference planning will be available online at www.nfg.org.
NFG Elections
Elections for the NFG Board or Directors will be done by mail ballot this
year because there isn't going to be an annual conference in the fall.
One ballot will be mailed to the primary contact for each NFG member organization.
Results will be announced online and in the next issue of NFG Reports.
Thanks to the many individuals who have expressed an interest in serving.
Comprehensive Community Initiatives Forum
On July 13-15, 55 grantmakers, grantees and community residents gathered
in Kansas City, Mo. for an in-depth discussion of the challenges and lessons
learned from Comprehensive Community Initiatives. Representatives from
a diverse set of programs compared notes and experiences. Conversations
and lessons from the Forum are being developed into a report that will
be available later this year.
Community Organizing Toolbox
The Community Organizing Toolbox will be featured in fall
regional meetings in Boston and Chicago. For information on organizing
a session in your area and information on ordering additional copies of
the Toolbox, call or email Spence Limbocker at 202-833-4690 x4 or spence@nfg.org.
Housing Public Policy Papers
In October NFG will release the first in a series of public policy papers
on affordable housing. Thanks to the committee of folks who have been
developing this critical project - Nancy Andrews, Peter Beard (chair),
Joe Belden, Debra Schwartz and Martha Toll.
NFG Staff Expands
We welcome Elizabeth Lombard to NFG's staff. Liz is our Meeting
and Conference Coordinator, a new position. She has extensive experience
organizing conferences, training sessions and meetings, and is already
hard at work on the Fall Rural Funders Forum and next year's annual conference.
Give Liz a call at 202-833-4690 x3 or email liz@nfg.org.
