September 25-26, 2013: Baltimore Housing Justice Learning Tour
In September 2013, the WGHJCT and funder colleagues traveled to Baltimore, MD, for a learning tour on strategies to promote social and economic equity through affordable housing and community development in the Baltimore region. Baltimore provided both a case study of pressing housing challenges that face cities and communities across the nation and a model for tackling these challenges through partnership between philanthropic, public and community leaders. During this tour, we learned from housing advocates and organizers, local funders and policymakers in Baltimore about their work on two critical and timely housing issues: responding to the ongoing foreclosure and mortgage crisis, and promoting fair housing and regional housing opportunity.
November 20-22, 2013: NFG Annual Conference - Jackson, MS
The WGHJCT partnered with leaders in the field to learn about emerging housing justice campaigns; fair development and neighborhood stabilization without displacement; the ongoing foreclosure crisis and its impact on communities of color and low-income communities; segregation and fair housing; and the future of housing policy in the US. We discussed strategies to win and philanthropy's vital partnership role. Click here to access resources from workshops and other events at the convening.
