Building a Funding Response to Scenarios after the Election
News media, movements and policy experts are urgently signaling looming threats to democracy in the upcoming elections. But what do real strategies and responses look like for those at the front lines, and where do funders invested in economic justice play a substantive role? NFG’s Funders for a Just Economy is offering a dynamic session for funders to learn from experts, movement leaders, and funder leaders about possible election outcomes and strategize on how to meet related urgent social movement needs. Discussion will center on upcoming challenges the US may face, and multi-faceted ways to support grassroots economic justice & worker organizations working tirelessly to preserve and strengthen democracy for all.
Following brief presentations, funders will have the opportunity to strategize together about how to respond to the immediate, medium and long term needs of movement leaders. We’ll pay particular attention to the ways to protect workers, Black, Indigenous and people of color, LGBTQIA and gender non-conforming people, women, and immigrants. Coordination, information-sharing and a clear understanding of what can be ahead is key, and we hope this will be a vital space to unify funders invested in a more just economy and provide a venue for tips, best practices, and strategies to take decisive action and be a public voice for democracy and workers. This is a learning and working session that we hope will bring funders together and get us in motion to best support a more inclusive economy and democracy at one of the most critical junctures in decades.
