Position:
Program Associate, Child Welfare Strategy Group
Location:
Baltimore, MD

Background

The Annie E. Casey Foundation is dedicated to building a brighter future for all children, families and communities in the United States. The Casey Foundation aims to be not only a place that does great work — but also a great place to work.

At Casey, you will find a dynamic environment with staff of diverse backgrounds and perspectives who share a deep commitment to advancing the Foundation’s mission.

Job Summary

The Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Child Welfare Strategy Group (CWSG) works with public child welfare agencies to help them develop practices that keep more families together, place more children with relatives, identify caring foster families and reduce the number of kids placed in group care. These efforts aim to prevent kids from leaving foster care without a permanent family.

The Foundation seeks a professional with expertise in the field of child welfare to join CWSG as a program associate. Program associates support and coordinate major bodies of work overseen by senior associates. Based on available opportunities and demonstrated capability, program associates manage grants and/or lead specific pieces of work under the supervision of a senior associate or the director.

Responsibilities

As a program associate, you will:

  • provide content expertise on child welfare policy, practice, strategies and overall reform efforts;
  • promote the Foundation’s focus on child welfare system improvements, communicating information to policymakers, target communities, providers, partners and the general public;
  • provide technical assistance to sites and grantees, including convening and leading workshops, advising system leaders, facilitating discussions and building capacity for sustainable reform; and
  • plan and manage conferences, training, meetings or other gatherings of agency representatives, grantees, consultants and partners.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a human service field and at least three years of work experience in child welfare. Lived experience with the child welfare system can be substituted for one year of work experience. The individual should have knowledge of child welfare system policy, practice and strategy implementation, including frontline practice and community-based programming. Experience working in community settings or with system leaders in child welfare, juvenile justice, schools, mental health or other human service fields is a must, as are exceptional writing and public speaking skills. A strong commitment to, and appreciation for, racial and ethnic equity and inclusion is a must.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience.  Casey is committed to helping staff learn and grow, enabling them to bring their best selves to work by offering a range of professional development opportunities, including tuition reimbursement, conferences and training to further develop their skills and expertise. The Foundation also provides a generous benefits package.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a cover letter describing how you fit the qualifications above — and why working for the Foundation as a program associate interests you. The Foundation will not consider resumes submitted without a cover letter.
